The Global Engagement Division of the Department for Youth, Taipei City Government, is the first unit in Taiwan dedicated to promoting international youth development, focusing on broadening the international perspective and participation of Taipei's youth. In celebration of International Youth Day on August 12 and in anticipation of the Paris Olympics, the department will host the "Youth Street Power, Art Together Fun" event on Friday, August 9. The event will feature street artist ASERK, the Taipei Street Dance Association, and the Young Artist Tribe Taiwan. The event aims to use popular street culture, such as street dance and graffiti art performances, as a theme to foster a platform for youth exchanges and interactions both domestically and internationally, jointly creating a street art landscape.
The Department for Youth noted that the event will feature the Taipei Street Dance Association and Central Kids, both of which are dedicated to promoting street dance culture. They will present a stunning breakdance performance, one of the official events in the upcoming Paris Olympics. In addition to enjoying professional dancers' impressive skills, attendees will also have the opportunity to experience the diversity of street dance culture and enjoy the rhythm of music and dance through hands-on teaching sessions. Young Artist Tribe Taiwan will also join the event to enhance future interactions and inject new energy into the development of youth art in Taipei City.
Additionally, the event will showcase a live graffiti creation by ASERK, a prominent Taiwanese street graffiti artist, in the lobby on the first floor of the Department for Youth. The department hopes that ASERK's carefully designed work will reflect the unique style and vibrancy of the Taipei Department for Youth. Influenced by American graffiti from the early 1980s, ASERK is known for creating diverse visual effects with English typography. Besides graffiti, ASERK is also the founder of Taiwan's street art event, KIDZ JAM, and has been dedicated to promoting street graffiti culture for many years. His works often incorporate personal life experiences, focusing on typography with a unique and highly personalized style.
Commissioner Wei Yin of the Department for Youth stated that street culture is a vibrant form of cultural expression loved by the younger generation. Through this event, the department aims to provide a platform for youth from home and abroad to exchange ideas, experience the charm of street culture and art, and share their stories and cultures from around the world, allowing the world to make friends in Taipei. Wei emphasized that the department encourages Taipei youth to connect internationally. In addition to promoting the International Internship Program, the department will also launch subsidy programs for youth to intern abroad, participate in international competitions, and perform overseas, which are key steps toward expanding international horizons for youth development.
The "Youth Street Power, Art Together Fun" event will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, at POP PLAZA on the 5th floor of the Department for Youth building (No. 17, Section 1, Ren'ai Road, Zhongzheng District, Taipei City). The department welcomes all those interested in street culture, making international friends, and establishing new global connections to register for the event (registration link: https://reurl.cc/Dl1qXQ).
